Café Barriers Where the Hardware Is Part of the Look

A black powder-coated barrier disappears into the street furniture, which is usually what you want. Sometimes it isn't.

At a hotel forecourt, a restaurant terrace, a members' club or a flagship store, the barrier is part of the frontage rather than just a boundary. Chrome-finished stainless steel reads as considered rather than functional, and it sits properly alongside glass, brass and polished stone.

What Makes It Premium

More than the finish, though that's the obvious part.

Stainless steel with a chrome finish. Stainless rather than powder-coated steel, so there's no coating to chip or scratch through to bare metal underneath. It stays looking right for longer in a coastal or high-traffic position.

Pole pockets top and bottom. This is the functional upgrade and it matters more than the finish. On our economy barrier the graphic has a pole pocket along the top and eyelets at the bottom corners. Here it has a pocket at both edges, so it's held under tension top and bottom rather than clipped at two points. The graphic sits flatter, doesn't lift in a breeze, and looks tauter close up.

Two crossbars per kit rather than one, which is what that second pole pocket requires.

Sizes and Measurements

Three sizes, named by the approximate span between posts. The graphic is narrower than the kit name suggests, because the posts and bases sit outside it.

Measure the run you need to fill and allow for the bases, which sit outside the graphic width at each end.

Full Kits and Extension Kits

Full kit — two bases, two vertical posts, two horizontal crossbars and your printed graphic. Stands on its own.

Extension kit — one base, one vertical post, two crossbars and a graphic. Joins onto an existing post, so it can't stand alone.

For a run of barriers, order one full kit and then extension kits for each additional span. A four-panel run is one full kit plus three extensions rather than four full kits — cheaper, and it avoids doubling up posts where panels meet.

Choosing Your Material

Display/Stretch Polyester — a solid fabric, dye-sublimation printed for deep colour saturation. Considerably better than the PVC banner material most suppliers use on café barriers. The standard choice.

Fabric Mesh Premium — a perforated mesh that lets wind pass through rather than catching it. Worth considering on an exposed or windy site. Colour is slightly less dense because of the perforations.

Single or Double Sided

Single sided prints the outward face, and suits a barrier that backs onto a wall or where only passing trade needs to see it.

Double sided prints both faces. Worth it for a barrier standing in open pavement, or where the inward face carries a menu or offer for seated customers.

Double-sided graphics also have no visible horizontal stitching, which means your design uses the full printed area without a seam running through it. Most café barriers on the market don't manage that.

Multiple Designs at No Extra Cost

There's no additional charge for more than one design in an order, however many kits you're buying and whether they're single or double sided.

Useful for a run where each panel carries something different — menu, offers, opening hours, branding — rather than the same graphic repeated.

Artwork Requirements

Free templates are available for each size and configuration. A few things worth knowing:

• Remove all template elements — lines, boxes and markings — before exporting.
• No crop marks or registration marks.
• Use the full bleed area.
• Double-sided orders need both pages supplied, even if the two sides are identical.
• Fonts outlined, images embedded.
• PDF preferred, AI or EPS also accepted.
• No Pantone colours. Dye-sublimation can't reproduce them, so convert to CMYK before supplying your file.

On single-sided graphics the stitching line along the pole pocket is marked on the template — worth checking nothing important falls on it. Our thread is black or white, chosen to suit your graphic.

Every file is checked by a real person before printing, so obvious problems get flagged. We don't make changes or fixes to artwork — files should be supplied print-ready.

Care and Maintenance

• Disconnect the crossbars before moving an assembled barrier. Carrying a made-up unit by the crossbars will weaken or break the latches, and that isn't covered under warranty.
• Take graphics down in winds above Beaufort 4 (13–18mph) or in heavy rain. A café barrier presents a large flat surface to the wind.
• Machine washable at 30°C without detergent. Air dry completely before storing.
• Clean regularly — pollution builds up on white and light areas, and it's easier to prevent than remove.
• With proper care, a graphic typically lasts around a year of regular outdoor use.

Turnaround & Delivery

Production takes 3–4 working days. Turnaround covers production only — delivery is on top of that.

Hardware and graphics are often dispatched separately for efficiency, so don't be concerned if one arrives before the other.

FAQs

What's the difference from the economy café barrier?
Chrome-finished stainless steel instead of black powder-coated steel, and pole pockets top and bottom rather than a top pocket with corner eyelets — so the graphic is held under tension at both edges and sits flatter.

What size do I need?
Graphic widths are 850mm, 1350mm and 1850mm for the 1000, 1500 and 2000 kits. Allow for the 350mm bases at each end when measuring your run.

What's the difference between a full kit and an extension kit?
A full kit has two posts and two bases and stands alone. An extension kit has one post and one base and must join onto an existing post.

Can I use them indoors?
Yes. The base has a non-marking ring to protect flooring, and chrome suits an indoor setting particularly well.

Which material should I choose?
Display/Stretch Polyester for most sites. Fabric Mesh Premium on exposed or windy locations, where letting wind through matters more than colour density.

Can I have different designs on each panel?
Yes, at no extra charge, however many kits you order.

Can I order replacement graphics?
Yes. Replacement single or double-sided graphics can be ordered separately, keeping the hardware you already have.

Can I join barriers at a corner?
Yes. Each post collar accepts up to four rails, so right angles and tighter angles are both possible.

How do I move an assembled barrier?
Disconnect the crossbars first. Lifting a made-up unit by the crossbars will damage the latches and isn't covered by warranty.

Is delivery really free?
Yes. Standard UK delivery is included on all premium café barrier orders.
