The problem with a big outdoor flag is the base. Anything heavy enough to hold five metres of pole upright is usually heavy enough to need two people and a van.

This system solves that. The base folds in half for transport, then fills with water or sand on site — light in the boot, heavy on the ground. One person, seven minutes, no tools.

Sizes

Both are considerably taller than a standard feather or teardrop flag. At 5.3 metres this reads across a car park, a showground or a forecourt — it's the option when you need to be seen over vehicles and crowds rather than through them.

The Folding Base

The base is what separates this from the rest of the flag range.

It folds in half, so it packs flat into a car boot rather than taking up the space of a parasol base. On site, unfold it and fill with water or sand.

Fill it on site, not before you travel. A filled base is heavy by design, which is the whole point — carrying that weight around in a van defeats the object and makes it harder to position.

Water or sand? Water is quicker to fill and empty, and easier to deal with at the end of the day. Sand is heavier for the same volume and won't freeze, so it suits a flag that stays out through winter. If you're using water in cold weather, add salt to stop it freezing and splitting the base.

The Pole and Graphic

A telescopic aluminium pole, so it collapses down for transport and extends to full height on site.

The graphic attaches by eyelets rather than a sleeve, which means it's quick to fit and just as quick to swap when the campaign changes.

A carry bag is included, sized for the folded base, the collapsed pole and the graphic.

Wind and the Beaufort Rating

Rated to Beaufort scale 4 — 13 to 18mph, or 21 to 29kph. That's a moderate breeze: small branches moving, dust and loose paper lifting.

Below that, a filled base holds the flag steady. Above it, take the graphic down. At five metres with a three-and-a-half metre graphic, the leverage on the pole in a strong wind is considerable, and no amount of water in the base makes that safe.

Position it on level ground with the base properly filled, and keep an eye on the forecast if it's staying out for several days.

• Car dealerships and forecourts — visible above parked vehicles, which is exactly where a shorter flag disappears.
• Retail parks and roadside businesses — height that reads from a passing carriageway.
• Shows, festivals and county fairs — marking a stand in an open field where everything is at ground level.
• Sporting events — start and finish lines, sponsor visibility, marshalling points.
• Open days and launches — a temporary landmark that says "here".
• Garden centres and farm shops — roadside visibility on a rural site.

Designing the Graphic

Work vertically. The graphic is 800mm or 1000mm wide against 2800mm or 3500mm of height. Stacked layouts and short vertical text work; horizontal straplines don't.

Design for distance. This flag exists to be seen from far away. Fewer words, larger type, strong contrast. A design that works at reading distance will be illegible from where people actually see it.

Mind the eyelets. The template marks where they sit. Keep logos and important text clear of those points.

Resolution at scale. The graphic is over three metres tall. Check images are genuinely high resolution at full size rather than upscaled.

Artwork Requirements

• Fonts outlined, images embedded
• Document bleed included
• Important content inside the safe area
• Template elements removed — lines, boxes and markings must not appear in the exported file
• PDF preferred, AI or EPS also accepted
• No Pantone colours — dye-sublimation can't reproduce them, so convert to CMYK before supplying

Replacement Graphics

The hardware carries a 12 month guarantee and will outlast several graphics. Replacement flags can be ordered on their own and fitted in minutes, so a campaign change means a new graphic rather than a new system.

Production takes 3–4 working days. Turnaround covers production only — delivery is on top of that.
