A Roller Banner That Survives Being Outdoors

A standard roller banner isn't built for outside. The graphic absorbs moisture, the cassette corrodes, and one damp afternoon is usually enough to finish it.

This one is made for it. The graphic is 440gsm waterproof PVC rather than standard banner media, and the cassette is a weatherproof unit designed to handle rain, damp and temperature swings without seizing or rusting.

Double Sided as Standard

Outdoors, a banner rarely has a wall behind it. It stands in an open forecourt, on a pavement, at a gate or beside a pitch — and people approach from both directions.

That's why this one is printed on both faces as standard rather than as an upgrade. The two sides don't have to match: some businesses run identical artwork both ways, others use one face for branding and the reverse for an offer or directions depending on which way people are walking.

The Material

Printed on 440gsm waterproof PVC — considerably heavier than the 330gsm media used on our indoor banners.

The extra weight does two jobs outside. It resists moisture rather than absorbing it, so the graphic doesn't warp, bubble or discolour after rain. And the additional mass helps the banner hang flat rather than flapping and rippling in a breeze, which is what makes lighter outdoor banners look tired within days.

What Weatherproof Does and Doesn't Mean

Worth being clear about this, because it's where outdoor banners get misused.

It handles weather. Rain, damp, morning dew, cold. The graphic and the cassette are built to be rained on and keep working.

It isn't wind-stable on its own. The base isn't water or sand filled — it's a weatherproof cassette, not a weighted one. In anything more than a light breeze it needs securing or weighting, exactly as an indoor banner would.

In practice that means it's ideal for a forecourt, a shop frontage, an event entrance or a pitch-side position where someone can keep an eye on it and bring it in overnight. It isn't a permanently sited, unattended outdoor display — for that, our outdoor banner stand is built for the job.

Designing Your Banner

Supply both sides as separate artwork. Each face is its own file at full finished size. If you want the same design both ways, supply it twice.

The bottom rolls into the cassette. Roughly 100mm disappears, and outdoors the lower section is often obscured by whatever the banner is standing beside. Keep logos, headlines and contact details in the top two thirds.

Consider the viewing distance. Outdoor banners are usually read from further away and at speed — someone walking past or driving in. Fewer words and larger type work better here than a design built for an exhibition hall.

Every file is checked by a real person before printing, so obvious problems get flagged. We don't make changes or fixes to artwork — files should be supplied print-ready.

Turnaround & Delivery

Production takes 3–4 working days from receipt of artwork. The first working day begins the day after your order is placed, and turnaround covers production only — delivery is on top of that.

Standard UK delivery is free on all outdoor roller banner orders. Collection from our Burnley production facility is also available.
