Gift Tag Printing for Gifts, Retail and Hampers

A printed tag is the difference between a present that looks wrapped and one that looks finished. Retailers use them on product ranges and hampers, small businesses use them on orders going out, and at Christmas they save everyone writing names on the wrapping paper.

Each tag measures 85 x 55mm, comes with a 4mm drilled hole and white tie string, and is printed in full colour. Available from 25 tags up to 10,000.

Tag Shape

• Square corners — a clean rectangular tag. The simpler, more modern look, and the one to choose if your design runs close to the edges.
• Top angled corners — the two corners at the string end are cut at an angle, giving the traditional luggage or parcel tag shape. More classic, and a better fit for festive and gift use.

Bear in mind that on the angled version the top corners are trimmed away, so keep logos and text clear of that area.

Card Stocks

• 350gsm silk — smooth with a low sheen, and the best of the three for colour reproduction. The standard choice for branded retail tags.
• 350gsm uncoated — the one to choose if names are being written on by hand. Uncoated takes pen ink cleanly without smudging or beading, which coated stocks don't.
• 450gsm silk — noticeably thicker and more rigid. Holds up better on hampers and heavier items where a thinner tag would bend or tear at the hole.

The practical question is whether anyone will write on them. If they're going on presents with names added by hand, uncoated is the only sensible option.

Printing and Lamination

Tags can be printed single or double sided. Double sided is worth it where the reverse carries pricing, care instructions or a message — otherwise single sided is fine, and leaves the back blank for handwriting.

Matt lamination is available, single or double sided. It adds a smooth, durable finish and protects the tag from scuffing, which matters on retail items handled by customers. Note that you can't write on a laminated surface with a standard pen — if names are being added by hand, leave at least one side unlaminated, or skip lamination entirely.

Christmas Ordering Deadline

Order by 15th December for delivery before Christmas.

Worth ordering earlier if the tags are going on presents you're posting rather than handing over — you'll want them in hand before you start wrapping.

Artwork Requirements

• Finished size: 85 x 55mm
• Size with bleed: 91 x 61mm
• Bleed: 3mm all round
• Safe zone: 3mm
• Resolution: 300 dpi minimum
• Format: PDF or JPEG
• Colour: CMYK — RGB and Pantone colours will be converted during proofing
• Fonts: outlined or embedded
• Artwork: one design per order

Free templates are available. Keep important content clear of the drilled hole at the top of the tag, and clear of the angled corners if you've chosen that shape.

Every file is checked by a real person before printing, so obvious problems get flagged. We don't make changes or fixes to artwork — files should be supplied print-ready.

Turnaround & Delivery

Production takes 3–4 working days from receipt of artwork. The first working day begins the day after your order is placed, and turnaround covers production only — delivery is on top of that.

Standard UK delivery is free on all gift tag orders, whatever the quantity. Collection from our Burnley facility is also available.
