Memorial and Welcome Boards for Funerals

A printed board at a funeral does two quiet jobs. It tells people they're in the right place, and it gives them something to gather around — a photograph, a name, a few dates.

We print them on 5mm foam board in A1 or A2, from a single board, in two working days. Upload the design you've had made, or a photograph with the wording you want.

What They're Used For

• Photo boards — a single portrait, or a montage of pictures across a life. The most common request, and often the one people stand in front of longest.
• Welcome and name boards — at the entrance to the service or the wake, confirming people are in the right place.
• Order of service displays — an enlarged version at the door for those without a printed copy.
• Directional signs — particularly useful where the wake is at a different venue, or a large crematorium has several chapels.
• Memorial and tribute boards — a poem, a reading, or words that mattered to them.
• Guest book and donations signs — small practical notices that save people asking.

Sizes

• A2 (420 x 594mm) — suits directional signs, donation notices and smaller photo displays.
• A1 (594 x 841mm) — the usual choice for a main photo board or welcome sign. Large enough that a group can look at it together.

For a photo montage, A1 is almost always the right call. Several images at A2 ends up with each one small enough that people have to lean in.

Using Photographs

This is worth reading before you order, because it's the thing most likely to cause disappointment.

Older photographs are often the ones people most want to use, and they're the hardest to print large. A scanned print, a picture of a picture, or an image saved from Facebook will usually look soft at A1.

What helps: use the original digital file wherever one exists, rather than a copy that's been messaged or downloaded. If you're scanning a physical photograph, scan it at 600dpi or higher rather than photographing it. If the only version you have is small, A2 will look considerably better than A1 — the same image over a smaller area.

We check every file before printing and will tell you honestly if an image won't hold up at the size you've chosen, rather than printing something you'll be unhappy with.

Gloss or Matt

Matt is the usual choice. It has no shine, so it won't reflect chapel lighting or windows, and photographs printed on matt look more natural — less like a print, more like a photograph.

Gloss gives deeper colour and a crisper finish, which can suit a single strong image.

For photo boards, matt generally looks better and is easier to view from any angle in a room with overhead lighting.

The Board

Printed on 5mm solid PVC foam board — rigid enough to stand on an easel without bowing, and light enough for one person to carry and position.

It's solid board rather than paper-faced foam, so the edges stay clean and it won't dent easily. It'll travel between the service and the wake without damage, and it keeps well afterwards if the family want to hold on to it.

Boards are supplied printed only — easels aren't included. Most crematoria, churches and function rooms have them.

Timing

Production takes 2 working days from receipt of your file, with delivery on top of that.

Funerals are usually arranged at short notice, so if you're working to a tight date, collection from our Burnley facility removes the courier from the equation. Get in touch if the timing is difficult and we'll tell you straight away whether it's achievable rather than leaving you to find out.

Every file is checked by a real person before printing. We don't make changes or fixes to artwork, so files should be supplied print-ready.

Delivery

UK delivery is £6.50 per order, reflecting the size of the boards. Collection from our Burnley production facility is also available.

What sizes are available?

What's the minimum order?
There isn't one. Order a single board or several.

How quickly can you print one?
2 working days from receipt of your file, with delivery on top. If the date is tight, collection from Burnley is quicker — get in touch and we'll confirm what's possible.

Will an old photograph print well at A1?
It depends on the file. Use the original digital image where one exists, and scan physical prints at 600dpi or higher. If an image is small, A2 will look sharper than A1. We'll tell you if a file won't hold up at the size you've chosen.

Can I use a photo from Facebook?
It's usually best avoided. Social media compresses images heavily, and they tend to look soft printed large. The original file will always be better.

Should I choose gloss or matt?
Matt for photo boards — it won't reflect overhead lighting and photographs look more natural on it. Gloss gives deeper colour on a single strong image.

Do you supply an easel?
No, boards are supplied printed only. Most venues have them available.

Can I order more than one design?
Yes. Add each board as a separate item before checkout.
