A standard business card gives you two sides. A folded card gives you four panels in exactly the same finished footprint — 85 x 55mm closed, so it still fits a wallet, a cardholder or a display stand.

That extra room changes what the card can do. Appointment cards with a full booking schedule inside. Loyalty cards with stamp boxes that aren't crammed into a corner. Mini menus, price lists, service breakdowns, opening hours, a map — anything that would need shrinking to illegibility on a flat card.

Long Edge or Short Edge Fold

The fold determines how the card opens, and it's worth thinking about before you design rather than after.

• Long edge bound — the crease runs along the 85mm side, so the card opens upwards like a small book. The most common choice, and the natural fit for appointment cards and anything read top to bottom.
• Short edge bound — the crease runs down the 55mm side, so the card opens sideways. Better for wider layouts, price lists in columns, or a design that reads across the spread.

Separate templates are available for each, so download the one matching your choice rather than adapting the other.

Why Uncoated

Folded cards are printed on 350gsm uncoated, and that's deliberate rather than a limitation.

Most folded cards are working documents — someone writes the next appointment on them, stamps a loyalty box, or ticks something off. An uncoated surface takes pen and ink cleanly without smudging or beading, which a coated or laminated card won't.

Uncoated also folds better. A heavy coated stock can crack along the crease where the coating splits; uncoated creases cleanly and stays looking sharp.

Designing a Folded Card

This is where folded card artwork most often goes wrong, so it's worth getting right first time.

Your artwork is a flat sheet, not four separate panels. The templates lay out where the crease falls and which panel ends up where — page 1 of your file is the outside spread, page 2 the inside. Panels aren't in reading order on the flat sheet, so build inside the template rather than designing four cards and arranging them yourself.

Keep important content away from the crease. A logo or a line of text sitting across the fold will be interrupted by it, and on a heavier board the crease is visible up close.

Free templates are available for both long edge and short edge folds, in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.

Every file is checked by a real person before printing, so obvious problems get flagged. We don't make changes or fixes to artwork — files should be supplied print-ready.

Turnaround & Delivery

Production takes 3–4 working days from receipt of artwork. The first working day begins the day after your order is placed, and turnaround covers production only — delivery is on top of that.

Standard UK delivery is free on all folded business card orders, whatever the quantity. Collection from our Burnley production facility is also available.

Should I choose long edge or short edge?

Can I write on them?
Yes. The 350gsm uncoated surface takes pen cleanly, which is why it's the stock we use for folded cards.

Can I have them laminated or on silk?
Not on this product. Folded cards are uncoated only — coated stocks can crack along the crease, and lamination would remove the writable surface.

How long does it take?
3–4 working days production from receipt of artwork, with delivery on top.
