Designing for Backlit Display

Artwork behaves differently when it's lit from behind, and a design that looks right on screen doesn't always translate. A few things worth checking before you send your file:

Dark areas block light rather than diffusing it, so heavy blacks and deep shadows can read as flat and muddy once illuminated. If your design relies on a dark background, consider lifting it slightly rather than running at full density.

Fine detail and thin type lose definition when light passes through them. Keep type weights a little heavier than you would for a printed poster, and avoid hairline rules.

Colours generally appear brighter and more saturated when backlit, so a design that looks bold on screen can come out overpowering. Muted tones often work better than you'd expect.

If you're unsure, it's worth ordering a single poster first — there's no minimum order, so a test print costs very little compared to reprinting a full set.

Do you supply the lightbox frame?
No. We supply the printed film only, suitable for most standard lightbox systems.

What's the minimum order?
There isn't one. Order a single poster to test your design, or as many as you need.

How long does production take?
Choose 1 working day for urgent jobs, or 3–4 working days for standard production. Delivery is on top of that and included free.

What size should I order?
Measure the visible aperture of your lightbox rather than the outer frame, then match it to the nearest size. If you're between sizes, order the larger one — it can be trimmed, but it can't be stretched.
